Complaints & appeals policy

How complaints and appeals are received, examined and decided, fairly and without retaliation.

Scope

This policy covers appeals against IFEIA accreditation decisions, and complaints about IFEIA's conduct or process, or about an accredited institution's use of its accreditation, certificate or mark.

Making an appeal or complaint

Write to [email protected] with the subject "Appeal" or "Complaint", state the facts or the decision concerned, say what outcome you seek and attach any documents. For matters about a registry entry or certificate write to [email protected]. Please make an appeal as soon as reasonably possible after the decision.

How it is handled

  1. The Secretariat records and acknowledges it.
  2. An appeal goes to an Appeals panel that includes no one involved in the original decision. A complaint is examined by someone not involved in the matter.
  3. The people concerned are told what is alleged and given a fair chance to respond.
  4. A written outcome with reasons is given to the appellant or complainant and, where it concerns them, to the institution.

Grounds for appeal

  • A procedural error.
  • A decision not supported by the evidence on the record.
  • A decision affected by an undeclared conflict of interest.
  • New evidence that could not reasonably have been provided earlier.

Outcomes

The panel may uphold the decision, amend it, or send it back to the Committee with directions. The panel's decision on an appeal is final within IFEIA. Nothing in this policy limits any legal right you have.

Good faith and non-retaliation

We do not treat anyone worse for raising a concern in good faith. Appeals or complaints that are knowingly false or abusive may be closed.

Confidentiality and records

Matters are handled in confidence and records are kept. Where an outcome changes a registry status, the change is public.

Effective 30 October 2026. Questions: [email protected].
