Suspension & withdrawal policy

The grounds on which an accreditation can be suspended or withdrawn, and the fair procedure that applies.

Suspension

The Committee may suspend an accreditation, for the programmes affected, while a matter is resolved. Grounds include credible evidence that a condition of accreditation is no longer met, overdue annual monitoring, a material change that has not been reported, or misuse of the certificate or mark.

Withdrawal

The Committee may withdraw an accreditation where the standards or conditions are no longer met and have not been restored, where information provided was materially false or misleading, where misuse of the mark is serious or continues after notice, or where the institution asks for it to be withdrawn.

Procedure

  1. The institution is told in writing what the concern is and what evidence it rests on, and is given a fair opportunity to respond within a stated period.
  2. Where urgent action is needed to protect learners or the integrity of the registry, the Committee may suspend first and hear the institution immediately afterwards.
  3. The Committee decides and gives written reasons.
  4. The registry status changes on the date stated in the decision. The change is public.
  5. The institution may appeal under the Complaints & appeals policy.

Effect

While an accreditation is suspended, and after it is withdrawn, the institution must stop using the IFEIA badge and any statement that the programmes concerned are accredited. Learners already enrolled are not affected by IFEIA's decision; the institution remains responsible to them. IFEIA does not accept liability for the consequences of an institution's own conduct.

Restoration

A suspended accreditation can be restored when the Committee is satisfied that the concern is resolved. A withdrawn accreditation requires a new application.
